Boxes for Moving and Storage

Boxes for Moving and Storage

Have you moved before or is this your first moving adventure?  If you have done this before, you know moving usually takes lots of boxes. Some people start a moving project and see all the different boxes and their eyes just glaze over. Our website will help you in selecting the boxes you need. We welcome you to call us or stop in. We can answer any questions you have and help you pick out what you need. We can offer tips that we have learned over the years. We have a large assortment of moving boxes and supplies to make your job easier. This section will explain the core moving boxes you will use in a move.

Will the Box Protect My Stuff?

Moving boxes are one way to corral you possessions. We have seen people use trash bags for moving their things, but trash bags don’t offer the protection or ease of stacking that moving boxes provide. Putting your boxes in a moving truck and/or storage usually means stacking them on top of each other. You don’t want a box that busts open or crushes and causes the whole stack to topple over. Our boxes are designed for moving to help prevent these problems. Look for boxes with an Edge Crush Test of 32 lbs per square inch or a Burst Test of 200 lbs of pressure per square inch. If you want to amaze your friends, we have included the technical stuff at the bottom of the page.

What Size Do I Need?

It is likely that you have all different kinds of things you need to pack. That usually means different sizes for different things. We have four basic sizes for your general moving needs. We have other specialty boxes as well. Stacking moving boxes in a truck or self storage unit is kind of like doing a jigsaw puzzle. Having a number of similar sized boxes can make this easier. Remember to put the heavier boxes on the bottom and lighter boxes on the top to help prevent crushing. Packing the boxes full will help prevent crushing and damage. Damage is often caused when boxes are not full and things move around during the moving process.

Small Moving Box 1.5 cubic feet 16 x 12.5 x 12.5

The Small Moving Box is our best seller. It is great for heavy things. This is a good choice for books, tapes, cd’s and canned goods.  It works well for dishes, glasses and small fragile items. Our specialized dish set or glass set with dividers and foam pouches also fit into this box. Using a small box keeps you from making it too heavy and hard to handle. This moving box comes preprinted with labels on the top and side of the box. Just check off which room it goes to. That makes it so much easier when you get to your new location or to find something while it is in storage. Technical Stuff and Interesting Topics

You probably just want to pack your stuff and get the project over with. Here are some technical things about moving boxes and other interesting topics. If you are curious about how moving boxes are made, you will want to check out How are Corrugated Boxes Made. You can amaze your friends with your special knowledge.

Edge Crush Test (ECT)

Edge Crush Test determines how well a moving box will hold up for stacking. This is the force needed to crush a piece of cardboard standing on its edge. Moving boxes should have an Edge Crush Test of 32 lbs per square inch. Boxes with a lesser rating may be less expensive, but increase the chance of damage to your belongings.

Burst Test

Burst Test, sometimes known as Mullen Test, is the force required to rupture or burst the side of a moving box. This determines how well a box will hold up during moving. Moving boxes should have a Burst Test of 200 lbs per square inch. You may find less expensive boxes with a 150 lb test, but these are actually 46% weaker and not recommended for moving or storage.
